Copper Bracelets: Materials, Fit & Care

Choose a copper bracelet by its stated metals, size, design and care requirements. Copper collections can include both pure-copper pieces and mixed-metal designs, so check the individual item rather than treating the collection name as a complete material specification.

Pure copper and mixed-metal designs

Sergio Lub identifies pure copper, jewelers' brass and German silver among its materials. Its German silver is a copper alloy containing zinc and nickel; the name does not mean sterling silver. A gold-colored part should not be assumed to be karat gold either.

  • If you want pure copper, look for that description on the exact bracelet.
  • If a design combines colors or metals, check the material list for each part.
  • If you need to avoid nickel or another ingredient, ask about that model; do not rely on color or a collection-wide assumption.

Get the cuff fit right

An adjustable cuff still has a starting size and a maker's fitting method. Sergio Lub describes fitting the bracelet to the wrist initially, then rolling a correctly sized cuff on and off without repeatedly bending it. Follow the selected model's guidance rather than stretching it wide open each time.

Before ordering, compare the stated size range with your wrist measurement and check how the maker defines that measurement. If the sizing language is unclear, send us the product link and your question before choosing.

Are all copper bracelets magnetic?

Do not assume magnets are included. Check whether the exact product is described as magnetic or non-magnetic. Copper content and the presence of magnets are separate specifications.

What about claims of arthritis relief?

Copper bracelets should be selected as jewelry, not on a promise to treat arthritis. A 2013 randomized crossover trial by Richmond and colleagues enrolled 70 people with rheumatoid arthritis and tested copper bracelets and magnetic wrist straps. It found no statistically significant differences between the devices in pain, inflammation, physical function or disease activity. That study concerns rheumatoid arthritis; it does not establish a benefit for other conditions.

Care depends on the exact finish

Use the maker's care instructions for the selected bracelet. Sergio Lub recommends a jeweler's polishing cloth for its solid-metal bracelets. Do not automatically apply that method to a coated bracelet from another maker, or to a design with stones or other decorative materials.

If the bracelet's appearance changes, identify the metal and finish before choosing a polish. Repeated hard rubbing or an improvised chemical treatment is not a useful substitute for the correct instructions.

Compare our copper bracelets and Sergio Lub bracelets by their individual specifications. For other white-metal pieces, our sterling silver guide explains a different material standard.
