Chains
Explore gold and sterling silver necklace chains in a range of styles, lengths and widths. Choose a chain to wear on its own or compare pendant chains for a piece you already own. Read each item's metal, finish and construction details before choosing.
Choose a chain style
- Cable chains use connected links for a straightforward look.
- Box chains have squared links that create a geometric profile.
- Figaro chains combine longer links with groups of shorter links.
- Rope chains have a spiral-like appearance.
- Byzantine chains use a repeating pattern of interlinked ring pairs.
Compare length, width and pendant fit
Check the listed chain length in inches and width in millimeters. To compare how a length will sit on you, measure a necklace you already like or use a piece of string at the length you are considering. A given length will sit differently depending on your neck, neckline and any pendant.
For a pendant, compare its bail opening with both the chain links and the end ring or connector that must pass through it. Width alone does not establish compatibility. The chain also needs to support the pendant's weight; ask us to confirm fit if dimensions or suitability are unclear.
Flat Bismark chains: 18 or 20 inches
Compare our 18-inch 14K yellow gold 2.2mm lightweight flat Bismark chain and 20-inch version. Both listings specify the same metal and width; choose the length you want and review that listing's individual details.
Necklace chain questions
Does 14K gold mean the chain has solid links?
14K describes the gold alloy: 14 parts gold out of 24. Hollow or solid describes construction, which should be checked separately. A lightweight description alone does not establish whether the links are hollow. The FTC's precious-metal buying guide explains gold quality and terminology.
Can the same chain hold any pendant?
No. Check the bail opening, the chain's end fittings and the weight it needs to carry. A style name or chain width is not a guarantee of fit. Rio Grande's chain guide for jewelers explains these selection factors.
