Sterling Silver Polished 6.25mm Double Oval Flat Chain QDOF120-22

Here is my huge review: This chain is rather unique. The smaller millimeter versions have more of a rounded appearance on the link edges; which is what I prefer, however the 6.25mm chain has sleek compact design that looks great. This chain feels buttery smooth; not rigid or sharp like some herringbone / flat snake chains can be. The Double Oval is essentially a Cuban Link. In my opinion the most unique thing about this chain is how it reflects light in a way that mirrors onto the design itself. Because of that factor, I consider this chain to be bold rather than simple or subtle. This feature is visible in one of the available stock photos. From what I was told by the excellent customer service agent, the anti-tarnish coating is IT ProLux. Not Rhodium plating. Rhodium will eventually fade, and when that happens it’s not pretty, plus rhodium re-dips are expensive. Furthermore rhodium looks less like silver and more like stainless steel. This chain looks more like 999 solid silver than 925 silver. The reason for that is this 925 silver chain is plated with a layer of 999 silver which is treated with the anti-tarnish coating. Pure silver is still white in color, but new 925 silver that’s alloyed with copper / zinc has a comparatively more frosty white tone. In my opinion the anti-tarnish coating is a good trade-off. You get the durability of 925 silver and a lasting natural white pure silver tone with polished mirror finish. For cleaning I would advise using only a cotton buffing cloth, no polishing cloths or jewelry cleaning / polishing compounds. Whether machine-made of handmade, chains will usually have some minor flaws. With this chain here there’s nothing I would consider a dealbreaker. When holding the chain by one end and dangling it there is a bit of a twist, meaning the chain I have doesn’t hang perfectly straight vertically. This is very common with factory-made chains, and as far as I can tell it hasn’t effected the way this lays flat on my chest. This chain is a good compromise for someone who’s looking for the Cuban link design with super tight links, but doesn’t want the extremes of a herringbone. There are other 6mm chains out there which are very similar in design, but so far none of them have been actual 925 silver, even though they are being advertised as authentic. I chose BillyTheTree because they have 20+ years of online presence and their price on this particular chain was significantly lower than what other retailers were charging.
